The Bread of Life is planning on handing out food to the hungry Tuesday despite the possibility it might be violating zoning.
Last week KAKE News told you about a distribution disagreement at the new Living Word Outreach Church. Part of its ministry is called Bread of Life, feeding about 50,000 people a year. But neighbors and City Councilman Jim Skelton say the church will be violating city zoning laws if it distributes the food. Pastor Herbert Hudson defends his ministry.
"I cannot stress it enough. We are not a warehouse, not a distribution center. We are a church who are reaching out to the people," Hudson said.
The city approved zoning for a church on the property near Hydraulic and 1-135, but not for a distribution center. Bread of life is set to hand out its first supply of food from the new location Tuesday. The City of Wichita says it doesn't know if the church will be violating zoning.
