Jocelyn Scaia, a first grade student at Dodge Literacy Magnet, was announced as winner of Wichita Festivals, Inc. Tot Trot Artwork contest at a school assembly, Monday, May 12.
The Kansas Health Foundation Tot Trot, celebrating its 12th year as a Riverfest event, takes place after the Bank of America River Run. Scaia's artwork will be featured on the front of the Tot Trot race shirts received by each child who enters the race. The artwork contest is open to students in kindergarten through second grade in Wichita public and parochial schools. The winning design was selected from more than 2,700 entries, 200 more than in 2009.
"This contest continues to grow each year and 2010 was no different," Janet Wright, President/CEO Wichita Festivals, Inc. said. "With more than 2,700 entries this year, it was extremely difficult to pick just one! Jocelyn's artwork really captured the spirit of the Tot Trot. It will be fun to see it on all the t-shirts worn by Tot Trot racers."
This year, three winners were chosen from each division: kindergarten, first grade and second grade, with an overall winner being declared from those nine. Each winner received a book store gift certificate, while the grand prize winner received a gift certificate and a framed 2009 Tot Trot T-shirt.
