More than a thousand register to join in the Third Annual Autism CARE Walk at Heartspring Saturday.
The two mile walk in northeast Wichita featured activities, food, prizes and resources for families of children with an autism. The walk began and ended on the Heartspring campus at 8700 East 29th Street North.
Participants walked as individuals or as a team to raise pledges to benefit Heartspring's Community of Autism Resources and Education (CARE) Program, offering help to families of children with an autism spectrum disorder.
As many as one in 110 children are diagnosed with autism. Sixty-seven children are diagnosed with autism every day. In Sedgwick County alone, over 700 families are affected by autism, according to the Heartspring release.
