The Greater Wichita YMCA is pleased to announce that current West Branch YMCA Executive Director Mike Jobe will serve as the new Richard A. DeVore South Branch YMCA Executive Director beginning April 12. Jobe will replace former South YMCA Executive Director Kevin Padrnos, who passed away unexpectedly on March 13. Jobe will oversee the day-to-day operations of the South YMCA and Farha Sport Center in his new position.

“Losing Kevin was a hard blow to the entire Association,” commented Greater Wichita YMCA General Executive Dennis Schoenebeck. “Mike has been the executive at West for eight years. His background in youth sports and aquatics are a great fit for the South Y with its waterpark and sport center. Plus, Mike will be ideal in helping guide the staff through their time of healing.”

Jobe earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Central State University in Edmond, Okla. His Y career began in 1993 as a sports coordinator at the Tinker Area YMCA in Midwest City, Okla. He advanced quickly, taking a position as the sports and aquatics director only three months later. In 1998 he became the executive director at the Tinker Y. Jobe then made the move to Wichita to lead the West Y as its executive director in 2001.

Today, the South Branch YMCA serves nearly 24,000 members with more than 40% of its new members receiving need-based financial assistance. The South Y features a family center, indoor pools, an outdoor family waterpark, indoor track, outdoor sport fields, two gymnasiums, a dedicated gymnastics studio, four program studios and a variety of wellness center options. Adjacent to the South Y is the Farha Sport Center, which features eight hardwood courts, concessions, spectator seating and training room.

The Greater Wichita YMCA is a non-profit organization that serves more than 235,000 local kids and adults through child care, camping, urban outreach programs and healthy lifestyles activities. Nearly two out of three local kids participate in YMCA activities and more than 53,000 participants receive free and assisted programs. Within the YMCA’s financial capabilities, no person is refused program or membership privileges because of inability to pay.
