According to Chris Jorn, he likes to play Powerball when the jackpot reaches at least $75 million. Since the Powerball jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing was up to $95 million, he decided to purchase a $5 Quick Pick ticket. Later that night while on the Lottery’s website, the Derby resident discovered he’d matched the first five numbers, winning a $200,000 cash prize!
“We literally missed the jackpot by one number,” said Jorn.
The winning numbers in the Feb. 27 drawing were: 18-47-51-53-58 Powerball 30. The Powerball number on Jorn’s ticket was 31.
“We’re still very excited about winning,” said Jorn. “We’ve never won more than $100 playing Powerball. Now we can become debt free and save for our children’s college educations.
The Jorns, who have two children ages 14 and 12, already have Powerball tickets for Wednesday night’s drawing.
“You never know, we might get lucky again,” laughed Jorn.
The winning ticket was purchased at QuikTrip 363, located at 2801 N. Rock Rd. in Derby.
