Donald Haines buys Powerball tickets once a week and, at the same time, he always buys $20 worth of instant scratch tickets.

“I buy twenty $1 tickets, and then I take them home for my wife and me to scratch,” explained the 43-year-old Derby man.

A couple of weeks ago, they didn’t do too well. Haines says with $20 worth of tickets, they only won one $1 prize. Last week, things were considerably better. Haines bought twenty $1 Time for Change tickets and on one of them, he scratched off a $5,000 prize!

Haines and his wife Jennifer have been married two years and have four children between them. Haines plans to spend his prize money on a ski vacation for the whole family.

“The timing on this is great,” he said. “We had already planned the vacation, but things were going to be a little tight. This money will help a lot.”

Haines purchased his lucky $1 Time for Change ticket at Presto 21, located at 230 S. Baltimore in Derby.
