Dozens of Kansas children were legally adopted over the weekend on National Adoption Day.
Rebecca and John Hurla were among the families at the Shawnee County Courthouse in Topeka completing the adoptions of 32 children on Saturday.
Seven months ago, the couple took three toddlers under their wings with plans of only providing foster care. But Rebecca Hurla says their "hearts got taken by them so we jumped right into adoption."
The couple adopted 3-year-old twins, Aaron and Anthony, and 2-year-old Michael.
At the Johnson County Courthouse in Olathe, 10 families gathered to finalize the adoptions of 13 children.
Judge Kathleen Sloan spoke briefly on the courthouse steps. She called it a "special day" and said she hoped "every child who needs a family finds a family."
