The Kansas Arts Commission plans to pay royalties to the winner of its design contest for a new Kansas license plate honoring the arts.
The royalty fee is set at 3 percent of the plate's total cost, which hasn't yet been determined.
A new state law allows the commission to charge from $25 to $100, making the royalty from 75 cents to $3 per plate.
Artists have until Oct. 15 to submit designs. Any Kansan 10 or older is eligible to enter.
The Arts Commission hopes to raise at least $12,500 a year for its programs through sales of the plates.
