Being prepared for floods, tornadoes, snow storms and H1N1 flu is the topic of a Statehouse news conference Tuesday in the governor's office.
Gov. Mark Parkinson will be joined by Kansas health and safety officials to discuss how the state is prepared and how Kansans need to take their own precautions. Last week, Parkinson declared September as "Kansas Preparedness Month," part of a nationwide effort to increase awareness.
Health officials are expecting the H1N1 flu virus to affect a significant percentage of the population. Kansas officials held a summit in Topeka in August to review preparedness, including how the vaccines will be distributed.
September is National Preparedness Month. The Red Cross is offering free classes to get you prepared if a disaster strikes. Click here for a list of its classes.
