The Lawrence Humane Society has too many animals, so it's cutting its adoption fees in half for August.
Humane Society executive director Midge Grinstead says the humane society is near capacity. She says the reduction in fees is aimed at avoiding euthanizing some of the animals, which the Lawrence group has not done since 2000.
Regular adoption fees are $110 for dogs and $95 for cats. This month, pets can be adopted from $40 to $60.
Grinstead says more people are dropping off beloved pets because they can't afford to keep them — at the same time that fewer people are adopting.
