River Festival Volunteer Shortage

A shortage of volunteers is forcing Wichita River Festival Organizers to hang out the "Help Wanted" signs.

In all, about 1,000 volunteer shifts are still vacant with less that a month to go before the festival's opening day.

What is different this year? The economy. Thousands here are out of work. Some might think it means many have time to volunteer, but it's not working out that way.

Not volunteering could be a mistake however. Janet Wright, Wichita River Festival President and CEO, says volunteering is a great way to make connections.

Wrights says those connections have led to new employment for some in the past.
