On Friday, December 5, 2008, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) will return to Wichita to perform at the Kansas Coliseum as part of its Winter Tour 2008.
As is customary for all of TSO’s concerts, $1 from every ticket sold is donated to a local charity. This year’s beneficiary is ROCKO (Respite Outreach Care for Kansans Organization), a non-profit organization which provides respite care and enrichment activities for families of youth with disabilities.
TSO was founded in 1996 and is widely acclaimed as one of the finest arena attractions in rock music. According to Bob Kinkel of TSO, the performance will be a 2 1/2-hour Christmas rock concert that blends classical music and visual effects intended to stun the senses. TSO began touring in 1999 and its most recent tour drew over 1 million fans. The 2008 tour will feature 141 shows in 90 cities in just 9 weeks. Over the last nine years, Trans-Siberian Orchestra has donated over $4 million to charity.
TSO’s 2007 tour stop in Wichita resulted in a $7,575 donation to ROCKO who is returning as this year’s concert beneficiary. These proceeds were used to enhance ROCKO’s respite care with additional music therapy sessions. “It was a privilege being the beneficiary of Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s generosity in 2007”, said ROCKO’s Executive Director, Gina Ervay. “Music therapy helps youth soar above their challenges giving them new ways to connect and communicate with others. This year’s donation will further our music program which is geared to increase communication, enhance memory, and improve social skills”.
Tickets for Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Kansas Coliseum on Friday, December 5, 2008, are $39.50, $49.50, and $59.50 and on sale now through all Select-A-Seat outlets. TSO will donate $1 from each ticket sold to ROCKO. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the performance begins at 8:00 pm.
ROCKO was founded in 2002 and provides respite care for families and caregivers of youth with disabilities ages 3-23. Respite events are held each week in various locations throughout Sedgwick and Butler Counties. ROCKO’s respite events provide enrichment activities that address the mental, physical, emotional, and social needs of youth while providing their caregivers an opportunity to recharge.
