Wichita has no shortage of standout citizens, but without these 10 individuals Wichita wouldn't be what it is today.

From revitalizing crumbling buildings to easing the suffering of those in need, they've gone beyond the call of duty, giving their time and talents to make our city a better place.

They didn't ask to be called heroes, just live like them. Wichita magazine will honored the following citizens on Dec. 2.

Ron Holt, Sedgwick County Assistant Manager
Alberto Meloni, Exploration Place Director
Connie Zienkewicz, Families Together Director
Wendy Glick, Lord's Diner Director
Dr. Paul Wooley, Medical Researcher
Rich Vliet, Redstone Design Development Founder
Pat Hanrahan, United Way Director
Pat Jones, Dress for Success Director
Melad Stephan, Restaurateur
Stacie Valdez, North High Teacher
