Board members approved a master plan for changes to the Sedgwick County Zoo.
Zoo Director Mark Reed is planning to add four to five more elephants to the current two on exhibit. Better yet, it will be a walk-through exhibit, the first of its kind in the world.
"There's a little bluff in the exhibit, the elephants will go over you, and you will go over them when they go underneath," Reed said.
Also in the works is a new sea lion exhibit, two large jungles, a new stage area to seat 2,000 for concerts and bird shows, a better farm area and a bigger place for the reptiles.
The zoo board has some ideas where funding will come from, although nothing is concrete at this point.
They hope to start on the elephant exhibit in 2009 and finish by 2012.
