The albino American alligator naming contest at Tanganyika Wildlife Park drew to a close over the holiday weekend.

The contest to name the 5.5-foot female was held through Tanganyika’s Facebook fan page. After taking suggestions for 3 weeks, Tanganyika staff had over 200 names to choose from! From these suggestions, Tanganyika staff pared the names down to 5 finalists: Jadis, Pearl, Luna, Blanca, and Sugar. Voting was open for 1.5 weeks through Tanganyika’s fan page. When the poll was closed over the holiday weekend, the name that chosen for the albino alligator was Luna.

The two people that suggested the name Luna will receive a 2011 family membership to Tanganyika.
