Shockers Lose At Arizona

Arizona defeated Wichita State 13-5 in game one of a two-game series on Tuesday evening.

Erik Harbutz went 3-for-3 for the Shockers. Starter Josh Smith took the loss.

The Wildcats used five Shocker errors to score eight runs in the first two innings. UA tacked on another four runs in the third before the Shockers answered in the fourth.

Erik Harbutz doubled down the third base line with one out and Preston Springer drove him in with a single to centerfield. After a walk to Cody Lassley, Ryan Jones singled to the shortstop and Springer scored on a throwing error by Alex Mejia. Johnny Coy walked to load the bases and two runs came around to score on back-to-back wild pitches to cut the lead to 12-4.

The Shockers added a run in the eighth inning. Harbutz led off with a single and advanced to second on a groundout by Springer. He advanced to third on a flyout by Chris O'Brien and scored on a wild pitch.

The Wildcats also scored a run in the eighth to make the final score 13-5.

The Shockers are next in action on Wed., March 17 at Arizona at 8 p.m. Central time.
