   I woke up in the middle of the night the other night...and started flipping through the channels to find something to try and put me back to sleep.   I ended up almost getting sick.   A picture flashed upon the screen that I couldn't believe...so I stayed on it.  Turns out it was the video of Rhianna's new song on MTV.   Now,  I know it was the middle of the night....but this video (and lyrics) were so disgusting I can't even write down even one line of this song...let alone describe the video.  If I did , I would probably be reprimanded for putting something pornographic on our website.   Suffice it to say, the name of this song is " S & M" .

I was telling my co-anchor about it (Jeff Herndon)  and he vehemently agreed with me.  He hadn't seen the video.....but....get this.... has heard it on LOCAL radio stations (geared toward teens)  several times in the morning and afternoon!!   As a father, he is just as shocked and disgusted as I am.

  The lyrics and the video describe what many would call depictions of violent sex.   The daughter of another newsroom employee asked her mom "what does "chains and whips excite me" mean?" My 14 year old doesn't know what S & M means.   Now before you say "you should control what your kids listen to"...know that these are stations that gear toward "young teens " and :"tweens" and for the most part play Taylor Swift,  Carrie Underwood and Bruno Mars.  You can't be with your kids at all times....when they are carpooling with friends,  on their way to a soccer game with another mom or dad.     Why can't the local radio stations exhibit some form of decency or responsibility...or whatever to only play these songs only very late at night  (if they feel they "have" to play them).

Or better yet...Rhianna , obviously , is a very popular , successful recording artist.  Why does she feel like she wants to record songs about violent sex?   This isn't her first reference to it.  Soon after her former boyfriend, Chris Brown was arrested for domestic battery, she came out with a song which included a reference to the fact that she 'liked having her hair pulled" during sex!!                   So the guy who was (rightfully so) vilified for hitting his girlfriend(Rhianna) comes out with a new album.   Chris Brown got a standing ovation on American Idol.  Some were horrified by that.  I have been more horrified with  the lyrics of  the songs sung by  Rhianna , the woman he beat.
