As I picked up my 7-year-old daughter from school the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, she had a lot to say.
"Mommy, did you know people killed Martin Luther King, Jr. and he was a nice guy? He was just trying to help nice people."
I could tell she was so disturbed by this.
She went on to say, "Mommy, do you think Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Mommy and Daddy were sad when he died?"
I said "Oh yes, honey," and she replied, "And Mommy, Rosie Parks wouldn't let the white people make her sit in the back of the bus. I'm glad, If I was Rosie, I wouldn't move either. I'm really proud of her!"
From the mouth of babies, all I could do was smile!
