I have received many emails and comments from you about my story on Jodi Sanderholm's boyfriend. Colby Wilson dated Jodi for four and half years before she was raped and killed by Justin Thurber. Thurber was sentenced to the death penalty for the killing. During the time right after the murder I thought about Colby Wilson. I wondered how he was doing because we never heard from him. After Justin Thurber was found guilty in court I found Colby to see if he would like to talk to me about his story. He said in the beginning he didn't want to talk with the media because it was just too hard. He said he was ready to talk now. I drove down to Oklahoma and we talked for a couple of hours. He is a very nice person and you can tell he's learned a lot through this whole event. We sat in the church pews where is he currently working. We talked about his relationship with Jodi and his plans for becoming a pastor. We also talked about his current relationship. He says he is truly happy with his new girlfriend but, he will never forget the love and memories he and Jodi shared. As I was interviewing him it did not seem like I was talking to a 22 year old man. He seemed much more mature probably because of the experiences he has been through. I think the one thing I will never forget about this interview is the peace he received after giving his pain to God. It was pretty amazing to hear his story and see his remarkable happiness after such a horrific tragedy. He hopes his testimony will help many.
Have a great weekend all!!! If you have any questions about the interview just let me know. Jemelle

It only goes to show that all of our pain is bearable if we give our problems, and life's difficulties over to God. Colby is another example of that peace that comes over someone when they do just that. He could be hard hearted, hateful, and out to get Justin Thurber. What good would it be for him to be that way? I can grant you all of his hate and disgust against Justin would only make him more miserable. It was probably one of the most pleasurable interviews you did in a long while Jemelle. Here is to hoping that if you get the pleasure to follow-up with him, or another person in his same circumstances, that you will find the same peace of mind and understanding in that interviewee! Have a great day, and pass it on! Posted by: Jon It was a very well done story. Thanks to both of you for doing it! Posted by: Teresa Location: Kansas Jemelle, When I saw you were interviewing Colby, I was surprised. We never heard from him during the coverage of this horribly tragic time. I saw your interview with Colby and thought you made a good choice to show that life goes on even in horrific incidents like Jodi's. Thurber took Jodi's life, but everyone who loved her should honor her awesome life by LIVING their life! Colby seems to have adjusted to this new chapter in his life. I feel as if the best is yet to come for him and all those around him. I pray for him and that his influence with others will be laced with love and wisdom that he gained from loving Jodi and her family. He seems to be a gentle spirit. I am glad that you, Jemelle, followed this positive story. God bless you, Jodi's family, and Colby. |
