I love Wal-Mart. Great store. But I do have a suggestion. Please remove the word "Quick" and "Speedy" from the "less items" check out signs. It's not speedy or quick. It's simply a "less items" line. We all know why the line is anything but "quick." It just makes good business sense to put the faster checkers in the lines where people have the most items. Likewise, it makes sense to put the slower, lethargic checkers in the "less items" line. That doesn't make it quick or speedy. It makes it painful. Standing in a line three people deep holding a pack of gum and a RedBull watching the checker slowly, methodically scan a bag of diapers and some lunch meat while striking up a friendly conversation with the customer about the weather as the patron breaks out a coin purse and checkbook while requesting a book of stamps. Don't act like this hasn't happened to you. It has. When I'm in a hurry, I usually gravitate signs that says "quick" or "speedy." I expect that if the sign suggest "quick", then that's what I would get. Not true. I'm not suggesting changing out checkers. I'm a big fan of friendly conversations, and I still buy stamps. I'm simply asking Wal-Mart to stop the false advertising and remove the words "quick" and "speedy" from it's fewer items line. Just call it the "fewer items line." If a sign suggesting the line is fast were removed, then I would be OK waiting for the checker to snail slither a bag of chips or diet Mountain Dew across the scanner. I would be OK if the checker and the customer have a long conversation about the high price of gas. Just don't tease me with the empty promise of a fast checkout line.
