What a difference a few days makes. When I arrived in NYC on Sunday, it was hard to find a Shocker fan in NYC. But today, on the day Wichita State plays for the NIT Chanpionship, there are Shocker fans everywhere. At the continental breakfast this monring, there was a line of black and yellow to get toast and jelly. The players notice the fan support. Shocker senior Graham Hatch told me it's just a reflection of how great the Shocker community really is .. This is not a cheap trip, and the weather has been gross. Speaking of the weather, it's been cold. Today, it's cold, wet, and windy. However, I just heard a local news anchor say "this crazy weather." .. Crazy? ..Come on. Sure, it's cold and a bit windy, but crazy? I'm sure the fans from Wichita won't even notice. Wichita, Kansas knows "crazy" weather. It's not crazy, it's just gross. The rain mixing with the sidwalks and sewers makes for a smell that melts the face right off the skull. The stench from the taxi is a welcome break. One thing that has not stunk is the play of the Shockers. If Wichita State can keep it's stink-free game going tonight against Alabama, then an NIT Championship banner will soon be hanging in the rafters of Koch Arena. |
