I recently took a trip to Chicago. I love Chicago, but this blog is not to profess my love and affection for Chi-town. That's another blog, which I may or may not write. I just wanted to share a few observations on the different types of people that seem to join me on airplanes.
There is always the one guy or person on a flight who is "won't follow the rules guy." You know who I'm talking about. The dude who won't put his seat back in the upright position during take-off and landings. He won't turn off his cell phone, proclaiming that it's in "airplane mode," and that's "good enough." Most of these people are adults. I often wonder, if they can't follow simple airplane rules, these people must be rotten tomatoes in everyday life. Just put the tray table up! Come on!
Then there is the guy who brings along his entire office, and usually sits next to me. You know this guy. He's the dude that beaks out every digital device ever made during the flight. The wide-screen laptop, with his ipod, his ipad, some headphones, a PDA, a jump drive, and a fax machine.
Of course, I need to mention the lady who brings along full-size luggage, and tries to pass it off as a "carry on." I see more of this due to the ridiculous cost of checking a bag these days, but unfortunately, these overhead compartment hogs are taking up all the space. It forces guys like me to crush my regulation size carry on under a seat, or stick it in a bin 16 rows from where I'm sitting. If your "carry on " has wheels on it .. It's not a carry on!
I'm also a big fan of "dude who can't wait to get off the plane," and "guy who takes multiple bathroom trips on short flights." Usually this is the same person, perhaps because they need to use the bathroom.
I'm sure you have your own "flight guy" that for some reason keeps showing up on your plane. Feel free to make a comment and let me know who I'm forgetting.
