I thought it would be easy to find a rusty old beater truck ..but to be honest, it's turning out to be a very time consuming, difficult task.
My goal was to find a road ready, safe truck. Rust buckets welcome. I'm meeting some great people along the way. Some of the folks I plan to keep in contact with, even though I didn't purchase their vehicle.
I looked at another truck this week. Great truck. It had everything but tires. I didn't know it was riding on 3 balds and a spare until I showed up for a test drive. The guy selling the truck was very nice. He even offered to put some "safe" used tires on the truck (for 300 extra dollars of course). I passed. Good dude, just not something I wanted to do .. wheel and deal for some used tires. I was waiting for Monty Hall to jump out and scream in my face "What's behind curtain number 1??" Three used Cooper tires with 30% tread!!! No thanks.
Bargain hunters may disagree, but in the world of old trucks .. "you get what you pay for" .. is turing out to be true. I don't expect anyone to just give away a good running truck. Maybe my price point is low. Perhaps I need to just "pay more" or lower my expectations. I have come VERY close to buying at least two trucks. Just a few hundred dollars the other way, and I would be behind the wheel of a brand new, old rusty clunker with a hitch and running boards.
The search continues....
