It was a somber week for many of us here at KAKE. I spent most of last week at funerals. My good friend Adam lost his dad Bill. My friend and colleague at KAKE (Alan Shope) lost his father the same week. Their funerals were back to back. I knew both men. They were both great guys and great dads.
Ironically, the last time I spoke to Bill was about a year ago at a funeral no less. We got stuck in the overflow crowd, and ended up having a wonderful conversation about nothing at all. It was just good conversation from a guy who loved having a conversation. I didn't know it would be the last time I would see Bill. He was the most positive person in the world. Bill always had a smile for me, and I will miss his laugh. Bill was the kind of guy who could lift your sprits, no matter the situation.
Alan brought his dad George to the station about a month ago. I knew George a little. I bought my truck from him about 5 years ago. I still own the truck, and it is the best darn vehicle I have ever owned! When George came in, he stopped at my desk. We shared a 5 minute conversation about the truck I bought. (I told him he couldn't have it back). We shook hands, and he was on his way. He loved watching Alan's sportscast, and after some nagging from his son, he finally started watching KAKE news! I hear he was a big KSNW news fan. Which is no surprise, because Alan worked there for a time back in the 90's. George was a good man, a good dad, and he will be missed.
