Growing up, holidays have always been a time where family and friends would come home from college and out of state jobs to catch up and have some much needed relaxation.  It’s always been special to me.  People always say, you don’t know what you have, until you don’t have it anymore.  Since starting my career in television, I knew that I would be working the holidays.  It’s just part of the job…. But that doesn’t make it any easier for me.  Being the low man on the totem pole, I am scheduled for all of the major holidays again this year.  It’s hard since my extended family doesn’t live in Wichita; I can’t just pop on over to their house for dinner and then come into work.  It would involve a plane ticket or a long drive to get there.

There are many people that work the holidays every year; fire fighters, nurses, police officers, etc.  I’m sure many people have had this same feeling about not “being home” for the holidays. I’m lucky to have a wonderful support system at home in Colorado and here in Kansas with my boyfriend of several years, and who can forget our cute little puppies!?!

I’ve always been a “glass half full” type of person.  So here’s my question to you… how do you make the holidays special when you can’t be with your family?
