It was not even a month ago to the day that I wrote my last blog discussing the heat… we haven’t seen much change since. Here are a few stats (as if we need any reassurance that it’s hot…)
-Today marked day 45 of temperatures at or above 100 degrees in Wichita, with one more day on the seven day planner scheduled for tomorrow.
-We have reached temperatures at or above 105 degrees in Wichita this year alone 16 times. That ranks us the third highest in regards to total number of days at or above 105 degrees.
-A few months ago, if you remember, we hit 100 degrees on May 9th marking the earliest that Wichita has ever seen a 100-degree temperature in the history of the city (we should have seen it coming at that point.)
Previous records for Wichita include temperatures at or exceeding 100 degrees: 46 days in 1980 and 50 days in 1936.
At this point it looks almost guaranteed that we will tie if not break the record set in 1980… now the real question… will we break the all time record of 50 days set in 1936? I think most people at this point feel we’ve come this far, why not go ahead and break the record? I would have to agree… we’re so close what’s five more days?
How is everyone staying cool? I’ve heard of some pretty creative ways over the past few months! I know I’m counting down the days until fall… 31 days… Woo hoo!!!
