For the past two weeks I have been given the opportunity to fill in for Ben on GMK while he was on vacation. It brings back memories of the past two years before I moved to Wichita and was the morning meteorologist at my last station in Texas.
I went to the gym the other day during the afternoon after I got off work to participate in one of the group fitness classes. It completely wore me out! My instructor (who I usually take morning classes with) was curious why I was SO tired at the end of the cardio intense class! After I told her that I had been up since 1am… she was completely baffled! I realized that people don’t actually understand exactly how early people that work the morning show need to get up to get to work on time, and when the day actually begins. My instructor said that she just figured that if the show started at 4:30am… then we all got into work around 4:15am! I WISH!
Now, I know not everyone does the same thing, and maybe I take a long time to get ready in the morning, but for the past two weeks, I’ve been going to bed around 6pm (when it’s still light out!) and getting up around 1am! I’m into work around 2am and get busy making the forecast and graphics for the morning show. With the new 4:30am start time; it adds a little bit of pressure to get everything done on time! After the 2.5-hour show, we do Good Morning America local weather cut-ins for the next 1.5-hours. After a short break, it’s time to prepare for the midday show, which starts at 11am. Getting off at noon is SO nice but trust me when I say, it’s been a LONG day! I give people like Mike, Jemell, and Ben (who have been on this morning show for awhile) credit! It’s a marathon!
The best part of the morning show, and I really do mean this, has been getting to work with such fun people! It’s been a blast these past two weeks, reading birthdays and weird news everyday. I’ve had little experience reading from a teleprompter (since weather is all ad-lib) but am starting to get the hang of it! Thanks for helping me “fake” being a morning person, with the nice Facebook posts and emails! I really do appreciate it!
Now back to the regular schedule… sleeping in! Wooo hooo!!!
