Since moving to Wichita (1 ½ years ago!) I have received so many emails and phone calls from young female viewers, since watching me, have suddenly become interested in doing television weather and becoming a meteorologist… how cool is that?!? I have invited many of them to come in on the weekends and see the “glamour” of being on television. I first got my interest in television weather from a girl-scout field trip when I was younger. Sure, I always enjoyed the weather, but since that day I knew that was exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up... a television meteorologist. I’ve been so inspired by these girls that visit the station. It’s fun to see how I’m influencing the younger generation, when years ago, the female meteorologist that I visited on the girl-scout field trip, influenced me. I always tell them that we need more women in the meteorology field… and who knows… they could be a future meteorologist at KAKE!
I’ve also had the opportunity to give weather talks and short speeches about working in television to the community. Just recently, I had the chance to visit a local church in Wichita and give a short speech for their Valentine’s Day breakfast. They were awesome! Such a welcoming group of people! It is always reassuring to know people are watching the news and enjoying our personalities.
One thing I can say with confidence, since moving to Kansas… I have met some of the most wonderful people.
