You may see some new faces on KAKE News and some familiar ones no longer on the air. Cayle Thompson has left Wichita. Cayle took advantage of a wonderful opportunity to anchor the news at WINK in Ft. Myers, Florida. Cayle is a terrific journalist, co-worker and friend. He will be missed, but will do a great job in Florida. Stephanie Diffin has taken over producing and anchoring GMK Saturday.
Alicia Myers will be joining the KAKE team in mid-September. Alicia joins us from KOLN in Lincoln, NE. Alicia is no stranger to this area. She grew up in a small town near the Kansas-Nebraska border and has been to Wichita many times to visit family here.
While we're searching for Cayle's replacement, you'll see some other people on KAKE News. Kenzie Cordt has experience working in television in Topeka. Wendy McCart does a wonderful job producing Good Morning Kansas. She will try her hand at reporting for a few days. And new mom Abby Barnett will report for a few days. That's it for staffing.
Now, are you ready for football? The high school football season begins Friday, and our crews are getting ready. You can help by sending us score updates as they happen. Call in scores to (316) 946-1396 or e-mail us at sports@kake.com. We will update scores throughout the evening on kake.com, then have extensive highlights on the Friday Football Blitz and kake.com
One final note, and if you don't like stations bragging on themselves, stop reading now. 2010 has been a great year for KAKE. Our newscasts have won top honors in two regional competitions, including two Emmy wins. Recently we learned KAKE has been named Station of the Year by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. I'm proud to work with people who are dedicated to what they do and dedicated to the viewers they serve.
