Cold Case Murder

Posted: Wed 11:49 AM, Nov 17, 2010

The story out of Salina is baffling to me. City Building Official Paul Curry was arrested for the 1994 murder of his wife 16 years ago in California.

It sounds like a "Lifetime" movie. Husband 38, marries older woman. They live in a beautiful home in Santa Clemente, California. For months, wife is sick... not feeling well. Husband takes her to doctor after doctor, but no one can figure out what's wrong with her. Husband says he thinks she just works too hard. Then she dies. The autopsy shows the cause of death.... nicotine poisoning. What? She didn't smoke. Weird.

Now, 16 years later, California officials say they have new evidence showing Curry slowly poisoned his wife to death. Over the years, Curry moved to Las Vegas, then in March of 2010 he and his current wife moved to Salina, where he got a top job for the city.  Did he think he would get away with murder? Or are prosecutors wrong? This is one of those stories that you can't believe really is happening. I went to Salina this week to talk to people who know Curry. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is STUNNED. I get that all the time when we do crime stories..."oh, I can't believe he would do something like this, he's such a nice guy". But this time, it was truly sincere. People are completely shocked by Curry's arrest for murder.

This is one that will be interesting to follow.
