I just got back from the daily news briefing... and something on the arrest sheets made me so mad. A 25 year-old woman was speeding through the streets of Wichita yesterday with her 6 year-old, 4 year old, 2 year old, and infant. None of them were in car seats or seat belts. She crashed into a curb. All of the kids were injured. Police arrested the woman for driving on a suspended license, speeding and for not having the kids restrained.
First of all, why? I just don't get it. It's one thing to not buckle yourself, but to put your kids out there to be hurt or even killed. That is infuriating.
I have to say, my kids, from time to time, ask if they have to be buckled. I tell them, I need to hear that click before we move. They get it.
I am so adamant about this issue that if I pull up beside you at a stop light, and you don't have your kids buckled or a teen isn't buckled, I'll roll down my window and tell you about it. I've done too many stories on kids and teens dying in car accidents because they don't have their seat belts on! It's the LAW!
