It wasn't too long ago I was blogging about how cold is was and how staying warm wasn't all about fashion. Well, today I will be blogging about how hot it is and how to look presentable when you have sweat pouring down your back.
Today it's 105 with the heat index. There's little breeze. I am wearing a sleeveless top with a cardigan sweater over it. My photographer and I are standing outside the Federal Courthouse waiting to get video of a woman who just pleaded guilty inside. (we can't shoot video inside the federal courthouse) At first it's not bad. The sun feels good and it's nice to be outside. But within about 3 minutes, I feel the first trickle of sweat ( I sweat, I don't perspire) running down my forehead. I quickly wipe it away, remembering I have to anchor the 4 o'clock news. Within about 2 more minutes, I feel it running down my back and then my head. I run for the cover of a nearby shade tree. My photographer, meanwhile, is drenched! Poor guy. He likes it when it's cold. Now, I realize my mascara is running. Great! Just what I need... raccoon eyes. I don't mind sweating... if I'm working out, mowing, or at the beach, but when I'm wearing dress clothes and makeup... NO THANKS! After about 15 minutes, I'm cooked... done.
Fast forward 15 minutes.. back at the station... trying to get myself together for the 4:00 newscast. It's not pretty.... but what's a girl to do? I scramble... that's what. My hair is flat... my makeup is gone... and yes, I stink! I quickly start ratting the hair and reapplying makeup. That's the best I can do...
What's worse...? Sweat or frozen cheeks and ugly hats? I'll take sweat any day!
