After seeing the picture of Michael Phelps smoking marijuana through that bong, well, I kind of lost respect. There's a big debate going on in the newsroom about whether or not he should be in trouble for it. Some say "he's just a kid, give him a break", but I say "no breaks, sorry Mr. Phelps".
He is a superstar, an Olympic champion, an idol for thousands, possibly millions of kids. Yes, he's only 23 years-old, but he CAN'T make mistakes like smoking pot or driving drunk. He has to be held to a higher standard. I have also read some editorials that say he's spent so much time training that now he's bored. Well, he needs to find other things to do. I commend him for apologizing publicly for his mistake, but he needs to be held accountable. We all make mistakes, but when our children look to him as a role model, he has to be virtually perfect..
