Here It Comes

Who remembers the ice storm of 2005? Or should I say, who could forget? It looks like we might get something similar early next week! I'm not looking forward to that.

In January of 2005 my daughter was almost 3, my son just 3 months old. I'll never forget that morning. I ran a couple of errands with the kids, darting in and out of stores as quickly as possible because it was pouring cold rain. That afternoon, the rain started to freeze, and that's when the power went out, gone, dark... what we were going to do without the tv? It was the national championship football game... what timing!

Anyway, I kept the fireplace going and decided we would have a slumber party with the kids in front of the fireplace. The baby in a playpen and Josie in a sleeping bag on the floor with me. She was so excited because she had never slept with us before.

The ice was thick. All the trees were coated, the sidewalks looked like skating rinks. It was beautiful, but ugly at the same time. We all snuggled in trying to stay warm. The baby, who had been sleeping about 6 hours at a time woke up every 2 hours. Josie was a wiggle worm and kept stealing the covers. But you know what? It was one of the most memorable family times ever. All of us together relying on each other for warmth and entertainment. Now, do I want to go through that again? NO!
