In all my years working as a reporter, I don't think I've ever covered the early morning Black Friday sales. WOW! What an experience. There were people out there who had been camping for two straight days! I was shocked. Just to get a good deal on a TV? Hmmm... I'm not sure how far I would go. I talked to one lady who had a tent, a grill and food to last for more than 48 hours. She was cold and ready to go home and that was before the store opened.
Sure there are good deals out there, but why not show up at 5 am or whenever the store opens and get the item you want? Some people would say, well, if you do that you may miss out on getting the thing you want. Is it really worth saving $100? Maybe... to the die hards.
Then there are the people I talked to who say they do it as a tradition. Their family is in town for the holidays so they make a shopping day of it. One woman said they go to different cities every year on Black Friday to shop. Last year they were in Oklahoma City. This year it's Wichita... who knows, maybe next year they'll go big-time and head to NYC!
Believe me, I love to shop, but wow, that's too much for me... unless, of course, I'm assigned to be there... I might just find a bargain or two. :)
