When my 6 year-old was 3 she started begging me to lay with her for her naps. I thought, "OK, there's nothing wrong with that" except that it became every single day! Then it was at night too. Then it became a huge battle every night to where I finally gave in and said, "sure you can sleep with me".
She got over it (after a year and a half). My 4 year old always slept in his own bed... until about 6 months ago. It started with him coming in during the night and crawling in. That was so sweet. All warm and cozy. Until he started kicking me all night. Then about two weeks ago he started coming in my room before I could even turn out the lights claiming he had a "tummy ache". Hmmmmm... OK, so I gave in a few times... big mistake! Now it's every night that he has an owie or a tummy ache or his throat hurts..... the list goes on and on... The kid is good, I'll give him that!
But, I really worry that he won't stay in his bed ever! Plus if I have work to get done before I go to bed... or if I want to stay up and watch.. oh you know... Desperate Housewives.. there is little Jake. He's right there with his little blue blanket and his stuffed puppy and those big brown eyes! I AM a softie!
