Kansas Wind

I know we are all tired of this wind. I guess being in Kansas for the last 25 years, you'd think I would get used to it. But last evening before the storms hit, it was absolutely perfect outside. The kids and I spent all evening playing, working in the yard and simply enjoying the "stillness" .  The temperature was right,  the red sun was setting and there was NO wind! It was incredible.

A new neighbor stopped by to say hello. We were talking and she told me she and her family had just moved here from Oklahoma. She said, "I can't believe this wind! Is it always windy here?" I told her as far as I can remember, it is.   She did tell me that she does love Wichita. She explained that there is so much to do here and people are so friendly.  But the wind....

I'm glad that Kansans are taking advantage of our wind potential and putting up wind farms. I know it's still fairly controversial in certain areas, at least we'll get something out of the horribly windy spring we've had. I've been in Kansas for 23 years, and normally I don't notice the wind. This spring, however, seems particularly worse than normal.

I have always wondered why Chicago is called the Windy City. Is it that windy there? That would be a good name for Wichita. I get so tired of all this wind, especially when I live close to a fenced off area and all the leaves & trash seem to blow my way and stay! But I know it could always be worse. I would rather deal with this than the hurricanes or earthquakes.
