Pulling Teeth

It could be one of the most stressful experiences we go through as a child.  Now I'm a parent... and pulling teeth is about the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

My five year old daughter has lost two teeth, and so far, it's been fairly easy.  However, this week one of her top teeth is lose and very wiggly.  The other night she was begging me to pull it so the tooth fairy could come.  So, we got the tissue and assumed the position.

She was literally shaking, but ready.  "Go ahead mom, I'm ready," she said bravely.  I realized, all of a sudden, that I was shaking too.  Could I do it?  I took a deep breath and started to put pressure on the tooth. Immediately she pulled away, saying "Mom, wait, wait!  I need a second".

Oh good, I thought, she doesn't want me to do it.  WRONG! This routine went on for 45 minutes.  We never got the tooth out and by the end she was crying because the tooth fairy wasn't going to come.

I just remember as a kid, my dad asking to wiggle a tooth.  We knew what he was about to do, so we would run.  It was sheer terror. Poor girl.  I think I'll try getting her to bite into an apple.  I don't think I can do it... it's just too painful!

i am an 11 year old who googled ways to pull teeth and found this. when i pull my teeth i find holding the tooth with a wet towel and pushing it forwards or backwords (wichever way the tooth moves the most)until it's really loose then i twist it and push it forward (or backwords) hard. When i was little i held a stuffed animal really tight while my mom pulled them, or pulled them my self. I have a loose one i hope to pull tonight in fact. hope that helps

kids are little peaple with big emotions and parent's are big peaple with little emotions. to get to the big tooth you have to first let go of the little tooth. goodluck to both of you.

I am sure the tooth has come out by now but after watching Duda Does It, Jason may have some suggestions for you. He may even pull it for her.

Poor kid...! You could put a dime (or 50% of what you were gonna put originally) under the pillow with a note from the Tooth Fairy and say it's an advance. New business initiative from Fairy Land. Then you can explain to her how advance fees work. See? A little education plus money at the same time. ...or you could do what I did once with my kid...along with the normal payment, I typed up a fake "warning letter" from the tooth fairy that the condition of the collected tooth was marginal, and that thorough teeth brushing was recommended, etc. If the next collected tooth was below standards, then no pay-out!!! I'm mean.

When my daughter started losing her teeth, she lost 6 in 3 weeks! Talk about your toothless grin! After the first one was out, she was anxious for the others to come out, after learning about the tooth fairy. So we started eating ice cream or popsicles to "numb" her gums, and then she would wigle some more...till it came out! And we had a special little pillow made to put her tooth in and hung it on her bedpost, then the tooth fairy would leave the "loot" in her little pink pillow, and then leave the tooth under MY pillow to put in her baby book!! (O.K., we only kept the first two), but it was a magical time that was a joy to behold as a Mom! Good luck!

When my kids were little I solved this problem before it presented itself--I told them that there was no Tooth Fairy! No Tooth Fairy--No Tooth Trama :-)

My kids love losing their teeth, and who can blame them? Not only do they get money from the tooth fairy, they get cash from Grandma as well. My 6-year-old lost two teeth last week and has six bucks to show for it.

I have heard of people tying dental floss to the tooth and then yanking it out like that. Personally, I've heard the tooth will come out on it's own and by pulling it too early, it will be painful. My dad always just kicked me in the head, but I wouldn't recommend that.
