Holiday Memories

With Thanksgiving coming up so quickly, I thought I would give you some of my special memories of the holiday.

First and foremost I want to say how thankful I am to be living in the U.S.A. and in the beautiful state of Kansas. I also am very thankful for my family and especially my two beautiful children. Now, for Thanksgiving... I grew up on a farm in northwest Iowa. By the time Thanksgiving came around we had five inches of snow on the ground. What I remember most is getting together with my grandparents on their farm and joining up with my 70 some cousins. Ok, so I may be exaggerating about that, but there were a lot of us. We would go outside and Papa would hook up the horses to the sleigh and pull us down the country roads. We would be all bundled up and singing. It was such a special time. I can still feel the cold wind stinging my cheeks as we all snuggled up together. The holidays are especially important for family. I can't wait to see my family next week.

All of our family (aunts, uncles, cousins) lived here in Wichita and we could get together anytime. My parents, siblings and myself lived next door to my maternal grandparents. That was wonderful every day of the year. On Thanksgiving, all of the family would get together. After our meals, we would stay inside & play cards, marbles or any other kind of games. We would just sit and visit or we would go outside and play football & basketball. We just enjoyed our day together and was always grateful for the blessings God gave us. We would stay around and eat supper together as well. What great memories!
