When are your kids old enough to stay home alone for a couple of hours? We are having the debate in the newsroom. I'm saying 11 or 12. Some are saying 8. I have an 8 year-old daughter. She is very responsible and very mature for her age. I just don't see myself leaving her home alone. I'm too worried about something happening. Plus I don't think she would feel comfortable being by herself.
I have heard stories about people who leave for a long run early in the morning while their kids are still sleeping. The lock the doors and leave for an hour, returning before the children wake. However, what would happen if those kids woke up and unlocked the door, wandering around looking for Mom or Dad?
I guess, I'm a worry wart by nature.
