Great idea.  Here’s what we do – single parent of two

I generally ride my bicycle almost three miles to work a day even in winter – cars need to watch for us too – I have lights on my bike and still get cut off

One trip to the grocery store a week – usually on the way home from church – avoid ALL unnecessary trips.

Stopped eating out except for birthdays

Plan a weekly menu – that way I know what food I need and can scour for coupons and sales

Buy bread at the bread store

Milk at Braum’s

Kids take their lunches to school (it’s healthier any way)

I take my lunch to work

Started buying clothes and shoes at Steve and Barry’s in Town East ($8.98 or less on everything)

Enjoyment:

Still have time to go to the Y – I’ve kept that membership

We still go on an outing once a month with what we’ve saved – for now – Salt Museum in April

Kids make homemade butter

Board games

Reading together

There’s a lot to do – it just takes some creative thinking – the biggest way to save money is don’t drive if it isn’t needed.

Buy everything you can with Cash, don't rely on credit cards, try to eliminate your debt as quickly as possible. Live simple, Don't try to keep up with the latest fads, something different is right around the corner. Don't let material things and money make you.

We have a family of 6 and first we buy our hamburger(90%) at Sams for around $2 a pound. We also buy shredded cheese, canadian bacon and sliced American at Sams. We watch the ads and if something is on sale we buy alot of it. Ex: our kids love koolaid it was 8/$1 so we bought $10 worth and we are set on koolaid. We shop at Aldi's once a month and stock up on cereal, vegetables (canned and fresh), eggs, salad dressings etc. The thing I think saves us most is never throwing away leftovers, but instead think of a way to redinner. Leftover chicken gets shredded and thrown in a skillet with onions and peppers for quick fajitas. Pot roast no one wants gets shredded with bbq sauce. Bananas on the verge get peeled and thrown into a freezer bag for smoothies later.. I do not use coupons but I'm interested in starting to again:) Any ideas on how to get coupons people don't use?

I belong to a savings group at Yahoogroups. We keep each other informed of coupon that match sales and clearance items we see. I recently bought Venus Shavers on clearance at Publix for 2.57 each with a $2 coupon they cost .57 each. Planning your trips and using your coupons - many free local papers have them too, means you buy when it is on sale and you have a coupon rather than just one or the other. By keeping a 6 mos supply of items I rotate old up fornt, new behind, I cna buy when it is almost free instead of when I desperately need it, ending up paying full price. It helps so that you are receiving most items under $1 or for free. It takes time, but I do it while we watch our family movies on the weekend. Then I always visit the clearance area in my stores. This way name brands are cheaper than generic especially when coupons are doubled. We joined freecycle.org and trade videos back and forth with other members to avoid rentals. Think like cleaning, a little time daily

www.northfloridawriters.org/CarrolW.htm Stop buying commercial cleaning products such as laundry soap. My powdered version is made from a cup of washing soda, acup of Borax, and a grated bar of deoderant hand soap. Use 2 tablespoons per load for wonderful laundry soap. I've collected a mass of such ideas in my book Living Cheap & Loving it, tomatoes in the flower bed. See website if interested.

Hey, I see you're planning a trip to the Salt Museum. For even more savings, KZSN radio (www.kzsn.com) has 1/2 price gift certificates for the Salt Museum right now! You can get 4 passes to the museum for $25.00 ($50 value).

I make my own laundry detergent and I bought laundry balls so I no longer have to buy softener. These laundry balls fluff my towels more and keep them absorbent. Love them and the laundry soap I spend 8 dollars a year to make rather than 8 dollars each time I buy. Wonderful savings.

I do most of my shopping at ALDI and what I can't find there I get from Walmart. Usually the only shopping I do at Dillons is for stuff on sale because they are usually more expensive than Walmart. ALDI eggs are always cheaper than the other stores!

Remember, WalMart will price match! Save trips to various stores by bringing ads, or just tell the cashier. I NEVER pay thier price for milk, it is SO much cheaper at QT, I just tell the cashier it is $3.15 at QT. Easy as that... Keep foods fresh by using black binder clips instead of "Chip Clips" that break easilly. Binder clips are found with the office supplies, near the paper clips, etc. They are cheap (about $3 for a box of 10), come in various sizes, strong and last virtually forever! Take Nature Walks with your children. It is free, valuable quality time, and can help get you all in touch with nature. What better way to encourage Going Green than to visit and appreciate what it is all about?
