First of all, I changed it up a bit by putting the date in the headline for a reason.  With some teams having bye weeks at odd times and others not, I decided that saying Week __ might get confusing over the next few weeks... a small detail, but just in case you were wondering, there it is!  Also, and how lucky are all of you people for this, you're getting TWO blogs this week.  If you're a college hoops fan, check out my other blog about Lute Olson's sudden retirement if you have the time.

Okay, so what do we know about the Big 12 right now?  Texas is awesome... OU rebounded just fine, thanks... I still think Oklahoma State is better than Texas Tech and will beat them... Missouri is NOT back, yet (Colorado is terrible, 58-0 proved nothing)... Nebraska and K-State are on a collision course to play the "Winner gets Shreveport" battle in Manhattan on Nov. 15... If Kansas can get in a position to get a Holiday Bowl bid, they should grab it with both hands and NOT COMPLAIN AT ALL... the rest of the league isn't worth talking about right now... oh, and half of the league's quarterbacks were named semi-finalists for the Davey O'Brien Award... so, in case you didn't know there are a lot of good quarterbacks in the Big 12 (I know, stop traffic... who knew?).  I'm predicting a Missouri/Texas Big 12 Title Game right now... and I fully expect that to turn out about the same as first meeting between those two.

On to this week.....

Colorado at Texas A&M-  I was highly critical of A&M's quarterback switch earlier in the season and they've gotten mixed results.  At least they went with Johnson and stuck with him, for better or worse.  Colorado is playing a dangerous game at the QB position by flip-flopping back and forth.  They even brought Hawkins in for ONE play during a series on a 4th down against Missouri... it didn't work out.  I don't know enough about football to explain exactly why CU's offense hasn't been able to generate the same ground attack that led them to that win over West Virginia, but I doubt their talented group of running backs got slower.  Colorado has more to play for and Kyle Field is not the intimidating environment it once was.... Pick:  CU

Missouri at Baylor- Mizzou is not back to form (unless you think that they were NEVER that good, which I know some people do).  But they're still way too athletic to lose to a team that they overmatch this much.  Their defense is bad, but going against a look like Baylor's (where you can key on Griffin) they'll be fine... They'll win this easily... Pick:  Missouri

Nebraska at Oklahoma- This game gets the ESPN Primetime slot because of the historic matchups of years gone-by.  This will not be one of those match-ups.  OU is really clicking right now.  Sadly, that Texas loss ruined any chance to play for a conference or national title, even though they're that good.  If one of these non-BCS conference teams drops out or an SEC power drops a notch below, OU deserves to be that 1-loss, not-a-conference-champ team that gets an at-large bid to a BCS game.... Pick:  OU

Iowa State at Oklahoma State- Not much discussion needed here... the Cowboys darn near pulled off an upset against Texas... I think Ok State is "for real"... they should steam-roll Iowa State at home.... Pick:  OSU

Texas at Texas Tech- Hmmmmmmmmm...... I'm glad that we get to see UT's chops on the road against a good team.  For a while there it seemed like they somehow got the "USC schedule" where they were never going to have to play a tough road game.  I think UT's defense can keep up with Tech (they've got the speed).  The key to stopping Tech is turning their customary 7 to 8 yard gains into 3 or 4 yard gains (which IS possible, since they do so much short/underneath stuff) and throwing off their rhythm.  That's the thing about Tech:  they're high-flying, fast-paced and talented.... but they're not very multiple... if you can figure out how to slow them down, they don't have a Plan B... And they have a way they like to do things... if you disrupt how they just peck their way down the field 6 and 7 yards at a time, it really throws them off.  I like they're running game, which could help.  But I just think that Texas is better.... Pick:  Texas

Kansas State at Kansas- First off, let's all agree to put last week's losses on the shelf when assessing this match-up.  Both teams got their butts kicked, it's over with now.  I worry about K-State's defense in this game.  I know KU's "D" certainly wasn't much last week, but KSU doesn't run the same track meet kind of offense that's been tearing the Jayhawks up for the past two weeks.  K-State has proven that they can't stop Big 12 Spreads and that's exactly what KU's going to throw at them.  I give Kansas' defense a better chance of stopping K-State's offense than the other way around.  Plus, KSU is having running game issues right now.  However, and I know I'm going to sound like Ron Prince here, the kicking game could level the field for the Wildcats.  Prince talks about the kicking game so much because it wins so many games for them.  Last year's win over Texas featured two kick returns for TD's... this year's win at A&M had a blocked punt for a touchdown... they're leading the nation in blocked kicks... it's a legit factor in any game that KSU plays.  When the Wildcats make those plays, they get a spark... when they don't make those plays it's like something's missing.  But the kicking game is a wildcard and I think KU is in better overall shape right now than K-State.... Pick:  KU
