I've had people ask me lately.."are we going to have a stormy fall?"
The answer is...If I really knew this, I would sell this info, buy myself an island and live there for the rest of my life. So..since I can't do either, I'll offer my "intuition" gleaned from being raised in Kansas for the last 35+ years. "Typically"..after a long hot summer, the atmosphere has to undergo a major pattern change in order to "balance" itself out. This major change can last for a few weeks at a time, bringing more active weather and storms. It appears like the atmosphere is trying to undergo this change, but is not quite there as we're still seeing highs in the 90s to near 100 degrees in the second and third week of September. We'll need to wait a little longer, maybe into October, until we see the consistent pattern change and therefore, a consistent stormy pattern. How long this active pattern lasts, once it starts, will provide some clues for the winter and its storm track. Once we see large storm systems strike the Pacific northwest with lots of wind on Washington and Oregon beaches, then the fall pattern change could be starting. We'll just have to wait and see. |
