This article is missing several important facts. First, the bidding is between Boeing and Northrop Grumman; both of which are American companies. The Northrop plane is based on an Airbus design. Granted, Airbus would make money from the deal, however the tankers would be built in Alabama. Second, the WTO’s INTERIM ruling stating that Airbus benefited from illegal subsidies is only the first half of the case. The WTO is also investigating Boeing for illegal subsidies and has not yet released its ruling. Third, Rick Lemaster, Boeing's KC-X program manger, has stated that Boeing may not even build the tanker in Wichita. "We are looking at alternatives. If we can find CHEAPER places to do the work we will consider that." (from Flight International 9/15/09) Lastly, after awarding the contract to Northrop, the DOD commented that the Northrop bid was $3b cheaper than Boeing’s bid. Northrop also recently won a tanker maintenance contract away from Boeing because it better and cheaper.

Tiahart,Roberts and Brownback could care less about the American worker they are fighting for boeing. If boeing wins and outsourced 80% of the work over seas they wouldnt say one word about that.

Explain to me, why if all the US Senators and Representatives want a US plane, do they even ask Airbus to bid? Just to keep the cost of the Boeing plane down? Makes sense to me but it seems if even Airbus submitted a perfect 100% legal bid that was $10 billion cheaper, Tiahrt, Roberts, & Brownback would still scream.
