Hawker Beechcraft employees say the company's not playing straight. Dozens of workers gathered outside the plant Monday afternoon to air their frustrations.
"We wanted to get together so everybody could kind of feel and hear our pain," said worker Lisa Haak.
These workers are among 240 Hawker employees who got WARN layoff notices on Friday. They want to get out the word.
"We're letting the community be aware of what Hawker Beechcraft is doing to the employees. They're going around and telling everybody that we're being laid off. We're not being laid off. We're being subcontracted," said worker Debbie Thornbro.
The company says it's trying to manage production based on customer demand. But these workers say their jobs aren't going away and that the company is simply filling their spots with lower wage workers. They say that's not right.
Many have been working at Hawker for decades and are second or third generation employees. Now they could join the more than 3,500 other Hawker workers who have been laid off in the past year.
"They didn't even give us the option to take a pay cut. I'd have taken a pay cut to keep my job because I like what I do. I'm good at what I do. We didn't get that option," said Haak.
A Hawker Beechcraft spokesperson says the company does not have any comment on this situation.
