Wow what kick in the pants for unbroken prairie sod. How much money would an organization have to come up with to keep native prairie from being ruined by the plow? I wonder if Nature Conservancy, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Quail Unlimited, Tallgrass Prairie Alliance (??) and so many of the other "conservancy" type organizations could work together to save some of the pristine prairie??

Wow, this is a very delicate situation. The farmers will have to plant crops on the land just to get paid. Has there been any considerations or different avenues of approach on how these acres can be saved, without being cropped? Maybe instead of cropping, how about the owners lease out the land for wildlife hunting; just an idea. If the land is all flat land, maybe consider planting trees; which the county or environmental agencies can provide as a donation to perserve the land in the future.
