Salina Daycare Provider Charged

The Saline County District Court says a Salina daycare provider has been charged with aggravated battery and child abuse.
29-year-old Amanda Castro was arrested Tuesday morning after 911 dispatchers received a call from a licensed in-home daycare in the 1100 block of W. Republic. The caller reported one of the children in her care was unconscious.
Emergency crews airlifted a 5-month-old boy to a Wichita hospital with head and brain injuries. Police investigators say the child was expected to survive.
Officials said five children were in the home at the time of the incident, including two who belong to the daycare provider.
The Kansas Dept. of Health & Environment says Castro's daycare surrendered its license Wednesday. A spokesperson for the department says the daycare had no other violations since it began operating in early 2008.
